Rig above the turmeric line
Anything below chest height will be touched by stained hands. Suspend what you can; make wipeable everything you cannot.
Design for the overhead shot
Both functions are photographed from a balcony or a drone. Hanging strings and phoolon ki chadar read best from above; a stage backdrop reads not at all.
Seating is decoration
Low cushions, swings and floor florals do more for a mehndi than any backdrop. People sit for four hours; give them something to sit within.
