An outdoor installation faces three separate attacks, and defending against one does nothing for the others.

Sun

Ultraviolet light breaks the dye bonds in cheap polyester within a single season. UV-treated silk holds for years. This is not a finish you can add later; it is bought or it is not.

Wind

A flower wall is a sail. At eighteen knots a twenty-foot panel develops around two hundred kilograms of lateral load. We weight the base and guy the top; we never rely on the frame alone.

Rain

Water itself is harmless. Water carrying dust is not — it dries as a tidemark. Rigging with a slight forward pitch lets the run-off leave the petal rather than pool in it.
